Une mer chaude et peu profonde recouvrait autrefois cette r\u00e9gion, formant le calcaire, laissant derri\u00e8re elle des couches riches en fossiles marins. L'universit\u00e9 est relativement jeune et a re\u00e7u sa charte royale en 1966. Construit sur Claverton Down, au-dessus de la ville, le campus refl\u00e8te la vision d'apr\u00e8s-guerre de l'enseignement sup\u00e9rieur moderne, avec un fort accent sur la science, l'ing\u00e9nierie et le sport. Aujourd'hui, l'universit\u00e9 est class\u00e9e parmi les 10 meilleures institutions au Royaume-Uni.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Traversez Claverton Hill et continuez tout droit le long du chemin \u00e0 c\u00f4t\u00e9 des terrains de rugby de Limekiln.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-claverton-down\">Claverton Down<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Claverton Down est la haute cr\u00eate juste \u00e0 l'est de Bath qui surplombe la ville et la vall\u00e9e de l'Avon. Comme la voisine Bathampton Down, cette terre a servi pendant des si\u00e8cles de p\u00e2turage ouvert, et sa position \u00e9lev\u00e9e en a fait une route naturelle \u00e0 travers les collines. Les autorit\u00e9s ont d\u00e9lib\u00e9r\u00e9ment construit l'h\u00f4pital sur un terrain \u00e9lev\u00e9, \u00e0 l'\u00e9cart de Bath, pour emp\u00eacher la propagation des \u00e9pid\u00e9mies. Dans les ann\u00e9es 1930, des b\u00e2timents plus permanents ont remplac\u00e9 les pavillons en bois d'origine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">L'h\u00f4pital est rest\u00e9 en service apr\u00e8s la cr\u00e9ation du NHS, accueillant de nombreux enfants pendant les \u00e9pid\u00e9mies de polio de l'apr\u00e8s-guerre. En quittant Rainbow Wood, la premi\u00e8re partie de la descente est assez raide, perdant 60 m\u00e8tres d'altitude sur 400 m\u00e8tres. Soyez prudent s'il a plu avant votre promenade, car cette section peut devenir boueuse et plus difficile.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">En arrivant sur Widcombe Hill Road, vous parcourez une courte section sur la route avant de trouver la continuation du sentier un peu plus loin sur votre droite. Nous descendons maintenant le Smallcombe Vale, en passant devant la Nuttery Communautaire et en contournant le cimeti\u00e8re de Smallcombe.
