Take <strong>Colline de Horsenden<\/strong> for instance: who would have thought that you could walk through meadows, a farm, a forest and along a Canal, all within a London postcode and accessible by tube? And you can! I have put below the map of 2.7 mile (4.3km) walk I have done as a reference, but there are many more you can do<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\"><strong>Mont\u00e9e totale<\/strong>: 279 ft (85 m)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\"><strong>Difficult\u00e9<\/strong>: Easy to Intermediate depending on your ability to climb the hill. The climb is the only difficult part of the walk<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns has-background is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-9d6595d7 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\" style=\"background-color:#f2f2f2\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"\"><strong>Comment s'y rendre<\/strong>: Central Line to Perival then it is a 10-minute walk to the car park where the trail starts. Alternatively, you can take bus 297 which will take you much closer. Get off at Perival Community Centre stop and walk to the car park<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\"><strong>What do I pack<\/strong>: Comfortable clothing and a decent pair of shoes. You will be climbing a hill as well as walking through a forested area where the path can get muddy if it has been raining during the week. I would recommend hiking shoes or a pair of trainers if you do not mind getting dirty. Bring with you a snack and a packed lunch as there is a kids&#8217; playground which is perfect for a picnic. It is located between <em><strong>Sudbury<\/strong><\/em>, <em><strong>Perival<\/strong><\/em> et <em><strong>Greenford<\/strong><\/em> at the border with the borough of Brent. The hill is formed of London Clay with a layer of Dollis Hill gravel at the top to protect it from erosion. The hill was settled 2500 years ago as shown by a large number of potteries found on the hill. Farming on the hill is dated back to the fifteenth century and remains today. Come and enter the dim forest searching for the Gruffalo and his companions&#8217; sculptures following a map, answering questions and learning about the forest wildlife. The map below shows my exact starting point but, I will encourage you to start at the farm. From there, follow the Gruffalo trail and then turn left to join the main path leading to the top of the hill. Once you arrive at the end of the path turn right and take the stairs to reach the most elevated point of the hill where you will find a trig point. Once at the top if you cut across the field where the trig point is located, you will find <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hhactivitycentre.co.uk\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Centre d'activit\u00e9s de Horsenden Hill<\/a>. This forested area counts over 50 unique types of trees from Oaks to Hornbeams. This is the perfect location to forget that you are in the city,&nbsp;giving you the feeling to be immersed somewhere out of this world. This is without mentioning that you are surrounded by the birdsong of the parakeets. Very popular in West London, there are numerous legends about how these green parrots came to be here. The most well-known one is that Jimi Hendrix freed a pair of birds from his house in Mayfair to breed. You will find a variety of wildflowers and some ponds. It is worth having a quick peek at the other fields as you are descending towards the Canal. You cross over the bridge and then turn left. You walk along the canal bordered by houseboats, and you can admire ducks to swans drifting around. A little bit further down, you will find a playground. It is the perfect way to end this walk if you came with kids and it is a nice spot for a picnic. Bon appetit!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-making-the-walk-longer\">Making the walk longer<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">If you want to make this walk longer and see more of the surrounding area, here are a few options for you:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"\"><strong>Canal de la Grande Union<\/strong>: Don&#8217;t cross back at Paddock Pond and progress forward on the Grand Union Canal. This branch of the Canal goes all the way to Limehouse Bassin, passing by Little Venice and Camden. It will take approximately 5 hours to complete if you want to go all the way to the end of the branch<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\"><strong>Pitshanger Park<\/strong>: If you fancy visiting a park after your walk, I would advise that you go to Pitshanger Park in Ealing. Located 30 minutes walk away (or 10 minutes if you take the 297), the park is composed of a Golf Club, Tennis courts, Football fields, a playground and allotments.
