The town was settled in the Neolithic according to archaeological research in the region. It played an important role during the Peasants&#8217; revolt in 1381 as well as during the English Civil War, when the Maidstone Mayor, <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Andrew_Broughton\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Andrew Broughton<\/a>a prononc\u00e9 la condamnation \u00e0 mort de Charle I. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify\"><em>Fait amusant : au XIXe si\u00e8cle, des arch\u00e9ologues ont d\u00e9couvert un iguanodon fossilis\u00e9 dans la r\u00e9gion de Maidstone, qui se trouve aujourd'hui au Mus\u00e9e d'histoire naturelle de Londres.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Promenade \u00e0 travers Maidstone<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify\">Le probl\u00e8me au d\u00e9but de toute promenade \u00e0 la campagne est de sortir de la zone urbanis\u00e9e pour atteindre les champs de la campagne. Et dans le cas de cette promenade en particulier, c'est tout un p\u00e9riple pour y parvenir. Mais la r\u00e9compense en vaut la peine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify\">As you come out of Maidstone East train station (please note that there is more than one station in Maidstone, so make sure you get off at the correct one), walk up Station Road. You then arrive at the crossroad with King Street where stands the Queen Victoria Monument. Continue straight onto Gabriel&#8217;s Hill, which by the way is going down when you are going away from Maidstone town centre, phew! <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify\">Descendez la colline jusqu'\u00e0 Romney Place, puis tournez \u00e0 gauche. Vous vous retrouverez \u00e0 marcher dans une rue \u00e0 l'arri\u00e8re des b\u00e2timents qui n'est pas vraiment agr\u00e9able, mais le pire est \u00e0 venir. Je vous avais pr\u00e9venu, sortir de Maidstone n'est pas une promenade de sant\u00e9.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify\">At the end of the street, turn left and walk under the A249 (yep!) and cross to the other side to join the river bank. Don&#8217;t get too excited, it is a filthy river bank with all sorts of things being dumped there. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify\">Continuez sur le sentier et, apr\u00e8s les jardins familiaux de Square Hill, vous atteindrez Mote Park. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Parc Mote<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify\">You&#8217;ve made it out of the town, well done! Now it is time to roam around and enjoy the beauty of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitmaidstone.com\/things-to-do\/mote-park-p12581\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Parc Mote<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify\">Mote Park is a 440 acres public park in Maidstone. Its name comes from the old English &#8220;<em>discutable<\/em>&#8221; which means &#8220;<em>assembl\u00e9e<\/em>&#8220;.
