The village is accessible by train from London Victoria (approximately 40 minutes). Otford is known to be the home of Britain&#8217;s smallest listed building, a duck house in the middle of a pond on a roundabout. As per the two previous walks, we start by going down the High Street where we can find lovely boutiques and cafes. At the end of the High Street, we turn onto the fields before <em><strong>Telster Park<\/strong><\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-shoreham-village\">Village de Shoreham<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">We walk across the fields and pass near the River&nbsp;<em><strong>Darent<\/strong><\/em>. We then go up a hill, and quite a tough one! At the top, we found a <a href=\"http:\/\/kenttodayandyesterday.blogspot.com\/2009\/08\/white-cross-of-shoreham-kent.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">white cross<\/a> marked on the hillside, facing the village of <em><strong>Shoreham<\/strong><\/em>. We sit outside at a table in front of a window with a mannequin dressed in an old fashion way. Above the window, we can read: &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/commons.wikimedia.org\/wiki\/File:The_Jolly_Ostler,_Kings_Arms,_Shoreham_-_geograph.org.uk_-_1729528.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Jolly Ostler<\/a>&#8220;. Perplexed, we take our phones out and do a quick Google search. We find that back in the day the Ostler was the equivalent of the valet but instead of cars, he would receive customers&#8217; horses. It is said to be the last Ostler box in the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-lullingstone\">Lullingstone<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">After we finish our drinks, we get back onto the fields and the hill of <em><strong>Darenthdale<\/strong><\/em>, a much easier one!&nbsp;Following the path alongside&nbsp;<em><strong>Coombe Hollow,<\/strong><\/em>&nbsp;we then cut across the woods of <em><strong>Lullingstone Country Park<\/strong><\/em>. As we come out of the woods, we set foot in the lavender fields. The castle was built in 1427 and has belonged to the Hart Dyke family since. Henry VIII and Queen Anne were among the regular guests. The castle is also the home of the <em><strong>World Garden of Plants<\/strong><\/em> which opened to the public in 2005. The idea of the garden was born while Tom Hart Dyke, the heir of the family, was held captive in Colombia. It was built in 1859 to link Chatham to Sevenoaks. Among other things you can find in Eynsford:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"\">A ford in the middle of the village alongside a stone bridge<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">A 16th Century Plough Inn<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">An old mill<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">A Norman Castle built in 1088<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">We stop at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.castlehotelkent.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">H\u00f4tel Castle<\/a> restaurant for a traditional Sunday roast. The food is delicious and they offer a choice of five different roasts. I would highly recommend this place both for the food and the environment.
