Why not try the Thames path? This long-distance trail follows the longest river in England for 184 miles (296km). Part of the trail passes by London, from Richmond to Dickensian, for 79.5 miles (127.94km). Belvedere is in fare zone 5 so you only need your Oyster card or contactless card.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Ce qu'il faut emporter<\/strong>: Comfortable clothing, pair of trainers for walking in concrete, water (2 litres recommended)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Highlights of the Thames path: Belvedere to Greenwich walk<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Crossness Nature Reserve<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The Assembly<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Hydra and Khali<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The O2<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The cable car<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Cutty Sark<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Greenwich University<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Greenwich park<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The Royal Observatory<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Belvedere to Greenwich walk<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Belvedere to Gallions Reach<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Nous arrivons \u00e0 <em><strong>Belvedere<\/strong><\/em>&nbsp;Station. My tip is that there is a massive Asda behind the station, so you can get your food and drinks for the day from there. I would also advise you to use the customer toilets there as there are no facilities until the O2.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is not easy to join the Thames path from Belvedere due to the lack of signage. I strongly recommend that you take a map with you. To get to the Thames path, we need to follow the B253 until we reach &nbsp;<em><strong>Erith marshes<\/strong><\/em>. This area is classified as a&nbsp;Site of Metropolitan Importance for Nature Conservation. As we walk on the field, we meet some horses. We arrive at <em><strong>Crossness Nature Reserve<\/strong><\/em>, which was closed that day, so we had to take a detour. The reserve is a site of 25.5 hectares in the marshes. This is not the nicest part of the walk. Sculpted by Peter Burke, the &#8220;Assembly&#8221; represents a group of men getting together.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image size-full wp-image-469\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"429\" height=\"578\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/theflamingohiker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Screen-Shot-2021-03-23-at-21.12.21.png?resize=429%2C578&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"The Assembly, empty sculptures, Woolwich Arsenal. They are designed to protect the floodplains of Greater London from being flooded during exceptional weather conditions such as storms coming from the North Sea. They have been in operation since 1982.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignnone wp-image-468\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/theflamingohiker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Screen-Shot-2021-03-23-at-21.09.12.png?ssl=1\" alt=\"The Thames Barrier\" class=\"wp-image-468\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">The Thames Barrier<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>A little further down, we admire one of the two sculptures of Damien Hirst on the Thames path. The arena opened in 2007 and is an entertainment complex with a music stage, restaurants, shops, a bowling alley and a cinema. It has a capacity of 20,000 making it the second-largest music arena in the UK behind Manchester Arena.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image wp-image-465\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"572\" height=\"578\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/theflamingohiker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Screen-Shot-2021-03-23-at-21.02.30.png?resize=572%2C578&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"The O2 from the Thames path\" class=\"wp-image-465\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/theflamingohiker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Screen-Shot-2021-03-23-at-21.02.30.png?w=572&amp;ssl=1 572w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/theflamingohiker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Screen-Shot-2021-03-23-at-21.02.30.png?resize=297%2C300&amp;ssl=1 297w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/theflamingohiker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Screen-Shot-2021-03-23-at-21.02.30.png?resize=75%2C75&amp;ssl=1 75w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 572px) 100vw, 572px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">The O2<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Cable Car to Greenwich<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>We then jump on the <em><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theo2.co.uk\/visit-us\/getting-here\/cable-car\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Cable Car<\/a><\/strong><\/em> by the O2. The service, linking both sides of the Thames, opened in 2012. It is the highest viewpoint over the river, reaching heights of 90 metres (295 feet). We walk to the Greenwich footpath.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image wp-image-466\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/theflamingohiker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Screen-Shot-2021-03-23-at-21.04.42.png?ssl=1\" alt=\"Canary Wharf as we are walking from the Cable Car to Greenwich footpath\" class=\"wp-image-466\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Walking from the Cable cars to the Greenwich footpath<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>As we approach the footpath, we can see <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gre.ac.uk\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em><strong>Greenwich University<\/strong><\/em><\/a> on the opposite bank. The university, founded by Frank Didden, opened in 1891 and now has more than 18,000 students.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image wp-image-464\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/theflamingohiker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Screen-Shot-2021-03-23-at-20.59.25.png?ssl=1\" alt=\"Greenwich University with the Cutty Shark masts on the right side\" class=\"wp-image-464\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Greenwich University<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>We cross the Thames and come face to face with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rmg.co.uk\/cutty-sark\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em><strong>Cutty Sark<\/strong><\/em><\/a> on the other side of the footpath. The Cutty Sark was built in 1869 and was originally intended for the tea trade with China before the steamers took over. It was therefore repurposed for transporting wool from Australia to England. In 1954, the ship was towed to Greenwich and after three years of renovation, it was opened to the public by Queen Elizabeth II.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We then stopped at <em><strong>Greenwich market<\/strong><\/em> for some food before a walk to the park. <em><strong>Greenwich Park<\/strong><\/em> was used by Henry VIII to hunt deer. This 74 hectares park is part of the Royal Parks of London. Nested at the top of the hill we find the <em><strong>Royal Observatory<\/strong><\/em>. It was built in 1675 and plays an important role as the Prime meridian passes through it.&nbsp;We end our walk enjoying our food sitting under a tree. A well-deserved rest after a long walk.
