If so, this hilly circular walk in Kent is for you! When I enrolled myself for a 26 miles (42 km) hike marathon, I knew I needed to level up my game in terms of training. That&#8217;s how I came across this walk organised by&nbsp;<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/outdooraholics.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Les accros du plein air<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">. Oxted est une ville de banlieue avec des trains directs pour les gares de Londres Victoria et London Bridge. En sortant de la gare, nous descendons Station Road East, tournons \u00e0 gauche dans Gresham Road et remontons la rue pour arriver \u00e0&nbsp;<\/span><strong><em><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Limpsfield<\/span><\/em><\/strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">. Nous traversons ensuite le quartier r\u00e9sidentiel de&nbsp;<\/span><strong><em><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Limpsfield Chart jusqu'\u00e0<\/span><\/em><\/strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">&nbsp;nous arrivons \u00e0 la&nbsp;<\/span><strong><em><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Graphique en hauteur<\/span><\/em><\/strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">bois. La ville a \u00e9t\u00e9 colonis\u00e9e il y a des milliers d'ann\u00e9es, comme en t\u00e9moignent les vestiges de fortifications celtiques. Mais pas le temps de visiter Westerham ! D\u00e8s que nous atteignons la ville, nous faisons demi-tour et commen\u00e7ons \u00e0 monter&nbsp;<\/span><strong><em><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Hosey Hill<\/span><\/em><\/strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">. En continuant notre ascension, nous entrons dans&nbsp;<\/span><strong><em><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Hosey Common<\/span><\/em><\/strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Nous sortons du bois et traversons le bois. At this point, we reach 808 feet (246m) elevation, which is the highest elevation of this hike. We walk towards&nbsp;<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nationaltrust.org.uk\/emmetts-garden\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong><em><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Emmetts Gardens<\/span><\/em><\/strong><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">, where we stop for lunch.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Emmetts Garden, formerly farmland until 1860, received its name from the local word &#8220;<em>emmett<\/em>&#8221; which means &#8220;ants&#8221;. It is said that giant anthills were covering the site until 1950. But I can tell you that the ants are still there and they are a bit of a lunch spoiler. I strongly recommend that you carry <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.co.uk\/gp\/product\/B08T5XP4TD\/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&amp;tag=theflamingohi-21&amp;camp=1634&amp;creative=6738&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;creativeASIN=B08T5XP4TD&amp;linkId=6381dc4e871920d940944158f2a2ea2a\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a sitting mat<\/a> with you to avoid ant bites.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The house and the land were bought by Frederic Lubbock in 1890. The Edwardian-style garden was built between 1893 and 1895 by William Robinson, a friend of the owner. The garden is opened to the public and I highly recommend you take the time to visit it during the lunch break. You will find a variety of plants, flowers such as roses and spring flowers, and trees. But no! We come immediately face to face with&nbsp;<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nationaltrust.org.uk\/toys-hill\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong><em><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Toy Hill<\/span><\/em><\/strong><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">. We walk up the hill and arrive at the site of the remains of what used to be one&nbsp;<\/span><strong><em><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">of Octavia Hill<\/span><\/em><\/strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">&#8216;s first properties. Octavia, born in 1838, was an English Social Reformer. She is famous for her work to alleviate poverty and to help save sites such as Hampstead Heath and Parliament Hill Fields from urban development. She was one of the 3 founders of the&nbsp;<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nationaltrust.org.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">National Trust<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">. When we arrive at the bottom, we come face to face with horses. But no time to rest, we need to walk uphill back to the hamlet of French Street (OK, I admit it. I love that place). We keep going up and enter&nbsp;<\/span><strong><em><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Horsey Common woods<\/span><\/em><\/strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">. Following the trail across the woods, we then come out of the wood onto a busy road. We cross the road and enter&nbsp;<\/span><strong><em><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Mariner&#8217;s Hill&nbsp;<\/span><\/em><\/strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">woods. As the name suggests, we continue to go uphill. At the top, we are rewarded with a perfect view over&nbsp;<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nationaltrust.org.uk\/chartwell\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong><em><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Chartwell House.<\/span><\/em><\/strong><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">&nbsp;The house has been the home of Winston Churchill for over 40 years. Following the trail, we arrive at&nbsp;<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/britishlistedbuildings.co.uk\/101029762-tenchleys-manor-limpsfield\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong><em><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Tenchleys Manor<\/span><\/em><\/strong><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">, a sixteenth-century Grade II listed building. As we walk across the woods we see some bluebells. It is really early in the season so they are not in full bloom yet. On the other side of the wood, we are back at Limpsfields. We start the last part by going down from Limpsfield to&nbsp;<\/span><strong><em><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Hurst Green<\/span><\/em><\/strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">. Once we reach the village we have one last push up a hill leading to Limpsfield Common. From there we can enjoy the rest of the walk on flat ground, following the trail along the train tracks back to Oxted.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">When I did this walk, Covid restrictions were still in place, so we could not end the walk in a pub. Instead, some members of the group bought a takeaway fish &amp; chips and the rest of us went to a supermarket on the High Street to buy some snacks to eat on the way to the station.
